The Cross and the Flag

Hello CBSR: As we are continuing in this Lent Season of Fasting & Prayer; many have raised questions regarding the Role of the Church & Christians in this contemptuous political climate. Several weeks ago I came across a powerfully provocative well written article by Mr. Bryan Roberts for Relevant Magazine entitled “7 Things Christians Should Remember about Politics. I wanted to share the article with you my brothers and sisters as I remind you to keep praying for our Nation and its leaders. 7 Things Christians Need to Remember About Politics How......

Rally for Hope 2017!

I am Terrence Proctor, Senior Pastor of Church By the Side of the Road, in Tukwila, WA. I am excited to be bringing Rally for Hope to Seattle for the eleventh year! It was over twelve years ago when I led a collaboration of community leaders, churches and organizations to form an event we called “Rally for Hope.”  Before becoming a pastor, I was a teacher at a local alternative school in Seattle.  During those 15 years, I became used to seeing “at-risk and deviant” behavior among some of our students, but......

What is Lent & WHY Lent?

Beloved CBSR family, I wanted to share with you a powerful article that explains the upcoming Season of Lent from the Christian perspective:  God Bless you and please consider joining us Wed. March 5, 2014 6:30pm. This Article was written in the Huffington Post of England by Christian Author  Canon J.John Lent, the forty days before Easter (not counting Sundays), is a somewhat curious period in the Church’s calendar. Most things in the Church’s year are festivals and we happily talk about celebrating them. Lent is very different: it is a minor-key......

Five years ago, I led a formation of community leaders, churches & organizations to collaborate around an event called “Rally for Hope”.   Previous to my pastorate, I was an educator at a local alternative school.  Over the course of 15 years, I had become accustomed to seeing your basic “at-risk and deviant” behavior among some of our students but in 2003, I was rocked & shaken by a sudden rise in violent events involving youth in our area.  There was what felt like a tangible loss of hope among our youth and it......

Lesson for 11/20/13 “Enemies” Read Ecclesiastes 9-10 From the Commentary “I’m not afraid to die,” quipped Woody Allen, “I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” But he will be there when it happens, as must every human being, because there is no escaping death when your time has come. Death is not an accident, it’s an appointment (Heb. 9:27), a destiny that nobody but God ran cancel or change. Life and death are “in the hand of God” (Eccl. 9:1), and only He knows our future, whether it will......

It began with a vision almost 80 years ago. That’s when the Lord began to speak to Sister Hannah Goranson about her property between Military Road and Highway 99. As she prayed, the Lord seemed to impress upon her that a road should be cut through the thick-wooded lot and the church placed on that street. Without delay, the road commissioner had South 148th Street cleared and graded from Highway 99 to Military Road. Soon the first load of lumber was delivered that was to become the “Little Church By the Side......

What an incredible Ash Wednesday/Lent service we had last night!  Together, we were reminded that at every age, growing in faith and power doesn’t happen by just wishing and wanting. It takes a determined effort on the part of every Believer!  In Mark 9:14-29, frustrated by not seeing the power of Christ manifested in their attempt to heal a sick boy, the Disciples questioned Jesus as to “Why couldn’t we….?”  Jesus replied, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting”.  This stern admonition is one for us to take......
